Wendy Jolin and I went to the Provincial Art Gallery which was on JuJiang Road at 3:30 pm on March the 8th. We decided to go there because there was a Chinese calligraphy exhibition there so we could appreciate very much, the second reason was we first had lunch in 1912 and the Provincial Art Gallery was the nearest gallery from there.
The title of the exhibition was “The Calligraphy Exhibition Of Electric Power Company”. I found the most interesting artwork was a passage written by Liu YuXi who was a very famous poet in the ancient time of China. The passage named “The Compliment Of My Ugly House” used to be our Chinese text in the middle school, it was also one of the texts that teachers asked us to recite, so I hated it a lot at that time. However, saw that passage at that moment in the exhibition, so many memories jumped out of my mind. Looked at it again, I found the moral of poem was really profound and the calligraphy was so beautiful and elegant and even made me felt proud of my own country.
I was really attracted to the exhibition deeply because now I am a student in a Canadian school, during the school time, we should speak English and write in English letters. All this seemed that English is more important than our mandarin, but after the visiting of this exhibition, the perfect Chinese calligraphy reminded me that our homeland was and also is a brilliant strong country with varied spirited culture.
This is an interesting and meaningful short ship, I enjoyed it and also benefited a lot from it.
